Our picks: public criteria

Featured placements on the site work in two ways.

1. Automatic selection — “Our pick”

When no paid placement occupies a slot, we fill it automatically with places that meet all of these criteria:

• published, sufficiently complete listing (description, address, contact, hours, type, area, price, cuisine or services, photo);
• if the slot requires it: an authorised photo and the place being open at the time of the visit;
• if the place has a rating: rating and number of reviews at least equal to the slot's minimums.

Among the places that qualify, the order rotates every 6 hours using a deterministic draw, so the same places aren't always shown. No criterion depends on payment.

2. Manual placement — “Sponsored”

A venue can book a featured placement with chosen dates, language and page. While active, it takes the slot first with the Sponsored label; when it ends, the automatic selection resumes by itself. A placement never changes the real order of a list sorted by rating, distance or price.
